As can be seen, throughout this process, key actors have always considered the new statute as a tool to achieve goals of partisan and electoral nature, very different project in itself. Indeed, the new statute has served, first, that Maragall becoming president of the Generalitat, then, that Zapatero would ensure a future alliance with CiU allow it to continue ruling over the next legislature, and third, that Artur Mas can recover for his party the presidency of the Generalitat.
